Oh fall, how I love you so! There are so many things about this season that draw me in. Falling leaves and golden sunshine. Pumpkins and pumpkin flavored everything! Pumpkin pie, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin spice lattes. Goodness though, let’s not forget apples! For me, fall begins with apples. My house is filled with apple scented air fresheners starting in August and stores begin to roll out a large variety of apples to choose from. Heck, my family practically lives off of apples from August to September with how much we consume them! So you get it. We love apples a lot and with this season comes the extra fun activity of apple picking! This weekend we went to a cute little farm a few miles away and did just that. Of course what’s apple picking without adding a little something to make it more fun? As a crochet mom of course I had to come up with a cute pair of hats for my girls.
My girls wore these hats very comfortably the day we went apple picking. We’re at that awkward point in fall where September can’t decide what it wants its weather to be. The morning started off on the cooler side, but it was shaping up to be a warm day, but not too warm to show off my Red Delicious and Granny Smith kiddos! The girls happily skipped down the rows and rows of apple trees picking and laughing. They even gathered a few comments of admiration over their ability to blend in as apples! It was a fun day for all and with two large bags of apples it couldn’t have ended any better!
This hat comes in sizes 0-3 month to teen/adult, which you can find and download the PDF version of through my Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/apple-hat-10
For now though, enjoy the child size version through here. The child size fit both my five and seven year old perfectly and I would recommend it for ages 3 to 10.

From 2nd ch from hook sc in 1st 2 ch spaces, hdc in next 2, dc in next 2 ch spaces, tr in next ch space, dc in next 2 ch spaces, hdc in final 2 spaces. One side will be completed for a total of 11 ch spaces filled (sc, sc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc, tr, dc, dc, hdc, hdc)
Do not fasten off. You will now begin to work on the other side. Along the other side you will (hdc, hdc, dc, dc, tr, dc, dc, hdc, hdc, sc, sc). Now fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Now all that is left to do is to sew the stem and leaf on top and weave in all the ends. Enjoy your apple hat and hopefully some apple picking! Honeycrisp apple season is right around the corner!
