Dish Scrubbie Set # 3

Hello again to all my readers! I hope that during these crazy times you are staying happy and healthy and that with all the extra time at home due to the COVID outbreak you are able to find some extra time to enjoy crafting and crochet. Since the beginning of March I’ve been keeping busy with my own yarn stash and I’m happy to report that a handful of patterns did develop in my mind! I will be sharing all of them in this blog soon I hope. I do apologize for the lack of updates and patterns. I always say I’m going to focus on sharing them more, but unfortunately life things do happen. In this case, my family and I have been insanely busy selling our house! We’ve found what we hope to be our forever home in a town we’ve longed to live in for years. We are very excited to start this new chapter in our lives and I hope with it comes new ideas and inspiration to share with you here! The house has what I find to be the perfect craft room/office, and I absolutely cannot wait to get back to work once it’s set up! I will be sure to share more patterns after that occurs, so be on the look out!

For now though, I’d like to share one last pattern before moving and unpacking chaos takes over my life. Another dish scrubbie pattern! Okay, I know… I have two others on this blog too, but hear me out! Everyone has their own preferences for dish scrubbies! It’s all about the texture. Some like a spongier feel, others like the rougher, more abrasive scrubbies. With all the different types of scrubbie yarns out there nowadays, how can you resist trying them out and seeing what works best? Or… Maybe I’m just obsessed. I do like clean dishes!

Anyway, I have been seeing the Red Heart Sparkle yarn line on the shelves and couldn’t resist. It’s a lot thinner of a yarn than the tulle and Hobby Lobby Scrubology yarn line that I’ve used in the past, so be sure to keep that in mind. These do still work up quite quickly though! In total it took me about 20-30 minutes to complete each scrubbie. So without further ado…

Materials:

  • 4.00 and 4.5mm crochet hooks
  • Red Heart Sparkle yarn in various colors
  • Embroidery needle

Retangular Scrubbie

Use 4.00mm crochet hook

Ch 14 and starting in the 2nd ch from the hook work your way back down the ch with 12 sc sts. In your last ch space place 3sc.   Do not turn. Now working on the opposite side of your ch st you will sc in the next 12 spaces placing 3sc in the last ch space for a total of 30 sts in all.  This will now allow you to work in a round.

Rounds 1-10: sc in each st (30)
Finish up this piece by placing slip stitches across to close the top of the piece or you may simply sew. Sew in any loose ends.

Flower Dish Scrubbie (make two)

Use 4.5mm crochet hook and two different Red Heart Sparkle colors

Start with middle color (yellow) 6sc in a magic circle

Round 1: inc in each st around (12)
Round 2: *sc in 1st st, inc in the next st*; repeat around (18)
Round 3: *sc in 1st 2 sts, inc in the next st*; repeat around (24)
Switch to other color (pink) here. You will now work the petals. Start in your first st and work your way around. Petals are follows:

*2TR in 1st st, 2dc in 2nd st, 2TR in 3rd st and a sl st in the 4th st*. Repeat around for five times until you have the start of six petals formed.

You will now work the finishing touch on top of each separate petal piece with: *Hdc, hdc, dc, dc, hdc, hdc, and sl st.* Repeat on top of each petal piece for five more petals having six in total.

Fasten off leaving a long tail on one of the flower pieces. On the second flower, sew in any loose ends. You will not overlap the flowers and sew them together to form one thick flower. This will make for an extra durable scrubbie for washing!

Fasten off and sew in any loose ends.

That’s it! Simple as that! And you have four variations of scrubbie shapes to choose from! I can’t guarantee this will be my last dish scrubbie post as there are so many other  fun shapes I could come up with (if anyone is interested!), but I will say that it’s probably the last post regarding types of scrubbie yarn. I feel that I’ve explored the world of dish scrubbie yarn/materials enough to know what works and I will say that they’re all very good (check out my other posts for different types/patterns: http://tocraftahome.com/2018/02/dish-scrubbies/#more-140 and http://tocraftahome.com/2018/09/dish-scrubbie-new-version/#more-262 ) in different ways. With the Red Heart Sparkle yarn I feel it gives a good, thorough scrub with its abrasive texture and lately I’ve been leaning more towards these scrubbies when I do my own dishes. And like all of my other patterns, these dish scrubbies are wonderful because you can rewash and reuse them as they become dirty! Just a quick toss in the dishwasher or washing machine and they’re good to go!

Have you tried all three of my dish scrubbie patterns? I’d love to hear your input!

Happy crocheting! Until next time.
