The Pride Baby Hat

It’s June and that means Pride month is upon us! And what better way for an expectant mom to celebrate the occasion than to come up with a baby hat pattern in honor of this awesome month! Pride month is about celebrating so many things in the LGBTQ community and the colors of the pride flag should shine brightly! I wanted to make a hat designed for little ones, especially those part of these awesome families. It being one of the warmer months, I tried to design a nice lightweight crochet pattern for babies. The cluster stitch is great for this! This hat in particular works up really fast too, so if you want to make up something festive in a pinch, this is the hat for your little one!

***Cluster stitch: You will start a double crochet, but pull through the first two loops only. Yarn over and begin another double crochet. Pull through the next two loops. Yarn over once more and begin another double crochet. There will now be four loops left on your crochet hook. Pull through them all to finish your cluster stitch.

Materials:
-5.00mm crochet hook
-Worsted weight yarn in colors of the rainbow
-Embroidery needle

Newborn/0-3 Months

Start with pink or red yarn

Make a magic ring and start with a ch 3. You will now create your first cluster stitch. After the cluster st, ch 2. Continue to make a set of cluster sts followed by a ch 2 after each one until you have a total of 5 cluster sts.

Round 1: Ch 3. In same st you place one cluster st, ch 2. In same space place another cluster st, ch 2. Place (cluster, ch 2, cluster, ch 2) in each ch 2 space from the previous round. Sl st to top of ch 3.  (10 clusters total)

Change to orange yarn

Round 2: Sl st until you reach the first ch 2 space in the next round. Ch 3 into the ch 2 space. In same space you will place one cluster st, ch 2. Place another cluster. Ch 2. In the next ch 2 space place one cluster, ch 2. Now work in each ch 2 space by alternating this repeating pattern: *cluster, ch 2, cluster, ch 2 in next ch 2 space followed by cluster, ch 2 in following ch 2 space* Sl st to top of ch 3 once you reach the end of the round. (15 clusters total)

Round 3 Sl st until you reach first ch 2 space. Ch 3 and make a cluster st and ch 2 into the first ch 2 space. Now working through the round, in each ch 2 space please: *cluster, ch 2* around until you reach the end of the round where you will sl st to the top of ch 3 to finish. (15 clusters total)

Change to yellow yarn

Rounds 4 and 5: Sl st until you reach first ch 2 space. Ch 3 and make a cluster st and ch 2 into the first ch 2 space. Change to green yarn

Rounds 6 and 7: Sl st until you reach first ch 2 space. Ch 3 and make a cluster st and ch 2 into the first ch 2 space.
